Dubai Municipality has commenced adding 113 hectares of greenery to the Emirate at a planting ceremony at a new park.
Marking the 38th Plantation Week, the civic body planted the first date palm tree at the new Mirdif park site. The new park will cover 15,500m2 and cost US $2.7 million.
At the ceremony, Hussain Nasser Lootah, director general of Dubai Municipality, said DM was spearheading efforts to provide maximum green space to the city's residents as part of its Strategic Plan (2007-2011), which seeks to increase the per capita share of greenery to 23.4m2 and raise the total area of cultivated land to 3.15% of the total urban land by 2011.
Planting of first saplings on five other landscaping projects, including parks and street beautification, are now taking place. These include landscape projects at Al Thania Street and Umm Al Sheif Street, Al Qusais 3 Pond Park, Al Quoz Pond Park and beautification project along the Floating Bridge.
